Welcome to The Heuser Hearing Institute

About Us:

The Heuser Hearing Institute, located on a two acre campus at 111-117 E. Kentucky Street, Louisville, Kentucky, is a comprehensive, not-for-profit regional center of excellence for hearing loss and ear related disorders. Established in 2001, Heuser Hearing Institute provides educational, audiological, diagnostic, speech evaluation and therapy, cochlear implant, ear related medical services, and hearing research. We also serve as a site for medical and speech/audiology internships to ensure our methods remain on the cutting edge of technological and instructional issues related to deafness.

Our Mission:

To provide comprehensive quality hearing services in one centralized location to any adult or child experiencing a hearing loss.

Services Provided:

Louisville Deaf Oral School

  • Early intervention provided for deaf or hard of hearing children, birth through three.
  • Early childhood educational program for deaf or hard of hearing preschoolers and kindergarteners.
  • Pilot primary program for deaf or hard of hearing children first through third grade.

Hearing Services Center

  • State-of-the-art audiological testing, hearing aid dispensing and (re)habilitation services for children and adults.
  • Regional Cochlear Implant Center providing pre and post surgical assessments, device programming and rehabilitation therapy for children and adults.
  • Speech/language evaluations and educational assessments provided in a comprehensive diagnostic center for children and adults.
  • Assistive Device Center for all persons with a hearing loss or communication disorder which will provide devices and equipment to enhance individuals' daily living.
  • Ear related medical services for children and adults provided by affiliated local otologists.

Hearing Research Center

  • Currently, there are two laboratories in the Center operated by three of the University of Louisville faculty members.
  • Other researchers include graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Staff of the Hearing Services Center and the Louisville Deaf Oral School frequently contribute to and participate in the research.
